Are You A Saint—A Set Apart One?
PAUL, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:1, 2).
Paul was addressing living “saints.” The word “saint” refers to “one who
has been set apart.” The idea is first cousin to the words “holy” and
“sanctified;” both of these also relate to being “set apart.” Christians are
set apart ones! As sinners we repented trusting Christ as our Savior and Lord;
as a result God took us out of “Adam” and “the world” and placed us “in Christ.”
We are no longer identified with the lost, condemned, guilty, and rebellious
destined for an eternity in the Lake of Fire! No, we are now “in Christ” saved,
forgiven, adopted, blood washed, indwelt by the Spirit, seal for God, counted
in the Beloved, and destined for Heaven to be with God!
However, for now we are still in this world physically, but certainly not
of this world spiritually (John 17:14–16). Just as it is ok for a boat to be in
the water, we are ok still in this world. God help us if we allow ourselves to
get water in our boats! Like the Titanic we will certainly sink! No, we are not
of this world! Like a scuba diver, we exist in a foreign environment because we
possesses special equipment—in this case, the indwelling Holy Spirit of God. Every
genuine Child of God possesses the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:9; 1 Cor. 6:19–20), and
it is through the power of the Spirit of Grace that we Christians are able to
function in this world (W.W. Wiersbe). Under the Spirit’s influence, we will
actually behave and serve like “saints”—people set apart unto God for His
pleasure, purpose, and glory! How wonderful of the Spirit of God to puts His
“S” on us “aints” transforming us into “saints!” Yes, Beloved, it is a good
thing to be a ‘living saint’!
